Pastor Motomichi Harada Joins TMC Staff

For a number of years we have requested prayer for future TMC leaders, including someone who could focus on our Japanese Department. Resulting from a chain of divine encounters, Pastor Moto was introduced to us by one of our TMC Japanese couples in Dec. 2018. Discussion with him progressed quickly and naturally so that in March 2019 TMC voted to invite him to help lead our Japanese Department alongside Duane Dietze (ReachGlobal TMC staff member) and he joined us in April.

Moto is a Japanese returnee—someone who has returned from significant time outside Japan—who already has a ministry of leading Bible studies in Tokyo with returnees. He holds a Ph.D. in physics from Ohio State Univ. and an M.Div. from Singapore Bible College. He has been serving as an associate pastor at a church in Tokyo.

The 35-50 people who gather on Sundays at TMC are 30% Japanese and 70% expatriates from over a dozen countries. But our TMC staff consists of only “foreign multicultural” missionaries from the EFC worlds in US, Macau, and Canada. So having a “Japanese multicultural” pastor aboard our staff will position TMC for increased opportunities of evangelism, discipleship, and pastoral ministry among Japanese people, especially Japanese returnees.
