TMC’s 2nd Birthday

Tokyo Multicultural Church had its 2nd birthday on April 5, 2015!

On Easter Sunday March 31, 2013, the English Department of Musashino Chapel Center (an EFC in Tokyo) sent out six of its members to launch TMC on the east side of Tokyo. The next Sunday, April 7, we held our first worship service. During our first year we rented the meeting room of our apartment complex at $2 an hour on Sundays.

Then one year later in April 2014 we were able to rent an easily accessible and highly visible first floor of a business building in our target area near a major train station.

The Lord has blessed TMC over the past two years. Our Sunday worship service has grown from about eight people in 2013 to a high count of twenty, representing about ten different passport countries.

In September 2014 we launched our TMC Japanese Department under the leadership of our ReachGlobal colleague, Duane Dietze. Most of our activities are on Sundays. But our Wednesday skype prayer meeting runs 4-10 people, and Ann leads a weekly ladies Bible study as well as two outreach English classes. We hope to add more outreach English classes in the coming year.

TMC has four developmental phases:
  • ENVISIONING PHASE, 2007 - 2013. Dreaming, planning, and praying.
  • EMBARKING PHASE, 2013 - 2014. Launching.
  • ESTABLISHING PHASE, 2014 - 2018. Laying the foundation.
  • ENLARGING PHASE, 2017 - 2020. Starting the church planting cycle all over again.
So our 2nd TMC birthday is located within our third developmental phase. Eight years ago we began to envision a church like TMC. We are delighted as we now watch the Lord Jesus Christ establish his church that we are planting at TMC. And in faith we are asking him to help us start yet another church like TMC somewhere else in greater Tokyo five years from now.
