Video about our church planting vision for Tokyo Multicultural Church

View a short video (3 min) by Matthew Little about the vision for Tokyo Multicultural Church.

Note that the launch date for TMCC is now early 2013 instead of late 2012 as stated in the video.

Japan (Tohoku) Earthquake (3) – a remarkable prayer meeting

March 17, 2011

The major news networks have given extensive coverage of the earthquake, tsunamis, and nuclear power plant meltdowns in Japan. But there are many things happening in Japan that are unseen by the media. God is working behind the scenes in and through his church in Japan.

You see, Ann and I had the privilege of attending a prayer meeting in Tokyo early this morning–all from our rental cottage in Maine, USA. With the rotating blackouts in the Tokyo area, Musashino Chapel Center (English Department), decided to hold its weekly Thursday evening prayer meeting by skype. An invitation was sent to all MCC folks, so we joined in at our 6:30 AM. As we prayed together, and as I heard the prayers of our brothers and sisters in Tokyo, I was reminded of these words from Acts: And now, O Lord…give your servants great boldness… (Acts 4:29 NLT).

As you read below some of the prayers offered to God by the believers at MCC on Thursday evening, Mar 17 (their time), see if you too sense that God the Holy Spirit is giving his church boldness, even as he did in the early days of the New Testament church.

Prayer walks in Tokyo for TMCC

The Sky Tree (artist's conception)

The English Department of Musashino Chapel Center (MCC) held a prayer walk on Nov 25 (US Thanksgiving) for our next church planting project in Japan–Tokyo Multicultural Church (TMCC). More information here.

Dale and An will lead the next prayer walk near Kinshicho train station on February 10. (Dale and Ann will be taking a ministry set up trip to Tokyo in February.) The target area for our church planting project, TMCC, is in the shadow of the new Sky Tree to be opened in the spring of 2012. The Sky Tree will be the world’s tallest free standing tower.

MCC English Department votes to become the primary partner church of TMCC

On Sunday afternoon, June 6, the English Department congregation of Musashino Chapel Center (Tokyo Musashino Evangelical Free Church) voted unanimously to become the primary partner church of this Tokyo Multicultural Church church planting project. This is great news for TMCC! It will especially help in recruiting overseas church partners for this exciting new project.

The English Department congregation directed the English Council (English Department board) to develop ways of encouraging and supporting TMCC. One decision made by the English Council immediately after the congregational meeting was to form a “church planting committee” (name may be changed) to act as the link between MCC and TMCC, and to continue developing TMCC strategy.

Click on the following two links to learn more about what is meant by ”primary partner church.”

MCC English Department to vote about TMCC on June 6

On June 6, the English Department of MCC will decide whether to become the primary partner church for our new church planting project. The motion being brought to the English congregation by the English Council leadership team reads as follows:

Desiring to multiply churches to extend the gospel to all nations in Tokyo, including Japanese, and from Tokyo to all nations, the English Department of MCC will serve as the primary partner church for a multicultural church mission project in Tokyo led by Dale and Ann Little. The English Council is directed to develop ways of supporting and encouraging this mission project. Desiring to work closely with the Japanese Department, we will communicate to the best of our ability.

Church planting proposal presented to MCC Japanese Department deacons

On Sunday May 16, Dale was given the opportunity to share for 30 minutes with the Japanese Department Deacon Board of Musashino Chapel Center about our church planting project called Tokyo Multicultural Church. View the Japanese presentation here. Perhaps this project might eventually “be owned” by both the English and Japanese Departments of MCC, even though it is initiated by our English Department.

More information about our exciting new church planting project can be found here: tokyochurch.org.

“Church Planting: Exploring Options” video

On May 2 at the English Department of Musashino Chapel Center (Tokyo), Dale used the presentation linked at “Church Planting: Exploring Options“ to describe our church planting proposal for Tokyo Multicultural Church. Go to that site to view the video of the presentation.

There was general enthusiasm for the project, so it was decided that English Department members will vote on the proposal at a congregational meeting set for June 6.

We hope to begin recruiting partner churches for this exciting project in June. Stay tuned!

From pastoring back to church planting

We complete our part time, interim pastorate at the end of January 2010. Howard and Marilynn Plucar, the incoming pastoral couple of our International Department at Musashino Chapel Center (Tokyo Musashino Evangelical Free Church), plan to begin their ministry on Feb 7. This frees us for planning and strategizing for our next church planting project in Tokyo. The idea is to plant a multi-cultural church as a daughter church of MCC.

American thanksgiving in Tokyo

On Nov 28, we hosted a thanksgiving meal at our house for our church (Musashino Chapel Center). Though an American tradition (at least the November date), our house was full of many non-Americans. Turkey is not eaten much here in Japan, so most Japanese are amazed at how good it tastes. Ann used our oven non-stop for two days preparing the two turkeys, which were devoured with glee.

Thanksgiving to the Lord is for any age and any culture!

God is working at MCC in Tokyo!

A Japanese man (name withheld–let’s call him by his initials, YN) who works in the financial sector here in Tokyo informed me on Sunday Oct 25 that during the previous week he had made a personal decision to believe Christ. Praise the Lord!

For the previous nine months YN has been attending our church, Musashino Chapel Center (Tokyo), sometimes coming to our worship services, but mostly taking in a Bible study for English as second language people on Sundays at 9:30AM. That Bible class is taught by one of our church members from England.
